He later sees her when he is in a restaurant with Sharif and Natalie. Hauser takes Natalie home, where she kisses him. Embarrassed, she quickly rushes out of the car.

She sees him the next day and asks for a pass out of the Emerald City. He gives her a card that he received earlier by videomakers who are big in the Arts Community , and might give her a good lead.

Hours later, he visits Yonica and listens to her sing a beautiful ballad; from here on out, he develops a paternal affection for her.

Meanwhile, Natalie buys the cover for a pornographic video that the videomakers were going to shoot on Yonica's wedding night, and leaks it to the American press.

After a confrontation with Ooq-Mi-Fay who was involved in the making of this video , Hauser decides that the only way to continue with the wedding peacefully is to blame everything on Ooq-Mi-Fay's friend Bhodi Bhundhang.

Bhodi hunts him down and tries to kill him in a big house that Yonica is supposed to do an interview in.

There, Hauser reveals his past to Natalie and Yonica, and how his wife was killed and his daughter was kidnapped. He is interrupted when he hears a gun and rushes to another room, where he is forced to fight Bhodi.

He kills Bhodi in front of Natalie and Yonica, who flee the house, horrified. They rush off into a cab, where Yonica asks Natalie to be her bridesmaid; Natalie accepts.

Six hours before the wedding, Hauser receives a ransom video from what appears to be a gang of terrorists , who have taken Natalie hostage.

Hauser travels to a nearby city named Fallaf, saves Natalie, and makes it to Room , where he had planned to meet and kill Sharif. Hauser has a change of heart and lets Sharif live, and in return is informed "the ultimate chicken-hawk is nearby".

Realizing what this means Hauser goes to the Viceroy's secret location, and breaks down the glass to reveal the man behind the screen.

The Viceroy is actually Walken — the man who killed Hauser's wife and kidnapped his daughter. Hauser asks Walken what he did with his daughter, and finds out that Yonica was actually his daughter all along.

He rushes to tell Yonica at the wedding, and arrives there right before Walken destroys the building, accidentally killing himself in the process.

Once they are airborne, and have presumably escaped, we see a trailing missile about to strike the aircraft.

The Vice President reveals his next plan to attack neighboring Ugigistan, blaming them for the bombing of the Emerald city, and terrorist incidents in Turaqistan.

Both films are similar in style and theme, and both films star John Cusack as an assassin and Joan Cusack as his assistant, with Dan Aykroyd in a supporting role.

John Cusack co-wrote and produced the film, as well as starring in the lead role as Brand Hauser. A working title of the film was Brand Hauser: Stuff Happens.

Roger Ebert gave the film two stars out of four, describing the film as a "brave and ambitious but chaotic attempt at political satire".

He praises Cusack for bravery and the determination to make a film that is uncompromising and sets out to make a statement, but Ebert concedes he wanted to like the film more than he could.

He judges the film to be more about resurrecting Cusack's role as a hitman from Grosse Pointe Blank. When you've built up your HQ infrastructure and sufficient forces, it's time to go after those objectives.

By exiting the headquarters map, you'll return to the area map, move units into a task force and send them to an objective location. When they arrive, you'll once again drill down to a fairly typical RTS tactical map.

Once you completed all objectives on the area map, the campaign ends and you'll get payment, plus reimbursement for the buildings and RUs you've left on the various maps and be returned to the outer game.

The devil, they say, is in the details, and it is in the details that War, Inc. From an installation routine that doesn't warn of insufficient drive capacity, to the lack of documentation, to the sometimes clumsy interface, this game would have strongly benefited from some focus-group testing.

In the RTS section of the game, unit AI is sometimes horrible, with units getting stuck behind trees, or sitting quietly while the enemy attacks, never attempting to defend themselves.

Most frustrating is the way your team is whisked away from the field of battle as soon as you meet mission objectives.

Leaving behind several million dollars worth of installations when you're strapped for cash can be very disheartening.

It would've made for a much more user friendly experience if you were given some warning so that you could sell off unneeded buildings and recover the capital to use for the next objective.

So yes, it's happened again. The clever folks at Optic thought up a unique and exciting twist to the RTS genre, but somewhere along the way, things went slightly wrong.

A patch is being discussed, which may go a long ways towards improving the game, but as always caveat emptor. The point being, if you work at it, War, Inc.

He is taken by a car to the safe Emerald City within the fictional war-torn desert country of Turaqistan.

In the Tamerlane building, he meets Marsha Joan Cusack , his assistant for the mission. Once inside the building, he notices a reporter, Natalie Hegalhuzen Marisa Tomei attempting unsuccessfully to get inside the Tamerlane building.

Natalie attempts to find out why she can't get into Tamerlane, and after asking him several questions, is rushed out of the room by Hauser who doesn't want to reveal any personal details about himself.

He does arrange for her to have drinks with him which she accepts. Hauser visits the Viceroy in a secret location hidden in a Popeye's restaurant, who tells him what he needs to do.

The Viceroy who cannot be seen, but only heard with an altered voice informs Hauser that the grand finale of the Trade Show he's supposed to prepare will be a wedding for Yonica Babyyeah Hilary Duff , an oversexed, Central Asian pop star.

Later, Natalie meets Hauser at a restaurant where he gives her an all-access pass to the Trade Show. She arrives at the rehearsal and is greeted by Hauser and Marsha, who quickly go to watch Yonica's rehearsal.

Her oversexed appearance and slight attraction for Hauser make him throw up on Natalie's coat and he walks out. After talking to Jerry in his car, he drinks some hot sauce and then has a flashback.

He sees himself telling his fellow hitman Walken Ben Kingsley that he is tired of killing and wants to quit. He and Walken engage in a brief struggle in which he shoots Walken and leaves him for dead in the back of a garbage truck.

After receiving a delivery from a dry-cleaner in Germany, Hauser returns Natalie's now-clean coat to her at her hotel.

He asks her out for coffee and confesses his habit of drinking hot sauce when he's nervous. She then confesses that she doesn't despise him at all, and the two build up a small friendship.

He is later visited by Yonica in his office. She tries to seduce him, but he rebuffs her. He later sees her when he is in a restaurant with Sharif and Natalie.

Both films are similar in style and theme, and both films star John Cusack as an assassin and Joan Cusack as his assistant, with Dan Aykroyd in a supporting role.

John Cusack co-wrote and produced the film, as well as starring in the lead role as Brand Hauser. Battle began. We've suffered this supposed 'objective variety' before.

Movement was a nightmare. At first it was OK since earlier missions didn't require basic navigation functionality, but later missions became literal chores I had to really work at.

This is not fun in the least. My vehicle designs lost their meaning when they arrived piecemeal at a defended enemy target—I found myself cursing incessantly trying to pull off the simplest of tactics.

Vehicle design can allow a player to employ appropriately tailored tactics in theory only. I could NOT accomplish any semblance of sophisticated battle plan no matter my efforts or my vehicles.

War Inc. As fun as it sometimes is, the tactical play just cannot compare to more sophisticated fare such as Earth One feels bulky and slothful trying to utilize the interface albeit a tidy one in the execution of seemingly elementary actions i.

I said move here It is just too laborious to move a group intact through a tight ridgeline, never mind to pull off an airborne infantry assault via helicopter.

You are correct in assuming that the computer's manipulation of forces is flawless and ferociously efficient. And of course there is an abundance of tight-space terrain to fight on, perpetuating and accelerating the frustration level of basic commands.

I looked forward to finishing the missions so I could return to the technology screens and play in the laboratory, only to realize sooner or later that all of this effort culminates in the fighting I had just escaped from.

Kudos to the developers for finally allowing infantry to be trained into more effective units well beyond the usefulness of infantry in other games of the genre—two enemy TOW2 missile troops took out the entirety of my armored force in one session!

Mortar crews can bombard units from beyond their effective weapon range. Snipers can chew units to pieces with lethal efficiency including ton tanks—go figure.

Grenades explode with a respectable force. Infantry can essentially 'dig in' where they stand to gain a tangible defense bonus.

It was nice to see them portrayed as useful entities. Unfortunately given these few and other lesser features the tactical game is nothing without the strategic accompaniment.

Since the multi-player game dispenses entirely with War Inc. Basically I could move and fire. Sort of. If the area being moved to is not equal in size to the area that the selected units currently occupy, the chances of a navigation error multiply.

When you move units you may find that some are not responsive. At all. Sometimes units will move to a point consistently displaced from the destination you are actually clicking on.

Sometimes unit groupings will disappear, or units from one group will suddenly be part of another group.

You can deal with these code glitches usually by selecting the offending units and individually 'commanding' them out of their stupor, but you shouldn't have to.

The frequency of error is alarming, though their influence on combat is minimal, until you reach some of the more difficult missions where you need that basic functionality.

We need another patch here. To say that the enemy isn't going to surprise you in this game is an understatement.

The computer will utilize its various weapon systems wisely and surprise you with the available hardware, but in all other regards it is a tactical dunce.

The consistent crank-'em-out bee-lining mentality is not the foolproof brilliance of any Manstein, Sun-Tzu, or Alexander.

Graphics in Optik's game the original developers for the effort are both sophisticated and primitive. Units are crisp sprites, infantry are cleanly animated to a remarkable degree you can see identifying details besides mere color, i.

Again this is because of the limitations of the design in combat. Had the game called for trees and rivers and bushes and gullies to cover this familiarly bleak x desolation, they would have helped to break up the homogeneity.

Some are there, but they are merely rare variations on blocking 'terrain' pixels and not what I would call genuine terrain.

As it is, the tile sets are still competent enough to serve as they always do in this type of game. The sounds of explosions are more dynamic than the look of them: they could use some liberal doses of nuclear fire once in a while.

After seeing the introduction and after beginning several missions, you can't deny that a lot of effort was put into the cinematics.

Briefings are well narrated by a company spokesperson or associate with an occasional guest appearance by pertinent personalities, according to the mission at hand.

All acting is happily convincing compared to the typical history of multimedia performances, albeit they are radio performances only not a detractor in this game.

In-game audio supports that which is there very well. That is to say it keeps pace and is restricted to the scope of tactical combat and all attendant elements: sound design stopped when the combat design stopped.

What effects are there are fitting and believable, but like the mechanics you find yourself yearning for more variety. Not terribly crippling exactly, but every little bit does help.

The music is not particularly inspiring. I am ambivalent. You are supposed to be waging war. Some classical music to the order of Basil Poledouris' Red Dawn score would have been welcome.

On this note I am unnecessarily harsh due to the incessant flood of techno-dance beats and screaming guitar music that seems to be more and more frequently corrupting a generally serious entertainment experience; a few themes are quite decent.

The curve is carefully measured to keep a player challenged but not to discourage him. Actual combat is simple.

Later on, the real challenge comes from the horrible navigation controls. Don't bother. This product should be thought of seriously only as a solo experience.

Those who persist will be rewarded with a clumsy horde-and-beeline contest, which is not much of a contest.

These demands are quite adequate perhaps in part due to the limited mechanical scope of the tactical combat The manual is truly well done.

The 'Granite Corporation Official Document' is a remarkably humorous piece of work with its little marginal scribbles akin to the hilarity of Mad magazine's Sergio Aragones—as a bored hired gun exec, you artistically relieve yourself within the confines of the book that The Board has so kindly supplied for you.

All in good taste and most importantly without detracting at all from the potential seriousness of the role which you are priming yourself for.

The vandalism makes an already invaluable text a joy to read. The ample blithering clearly and succinctly describes every aspect of the game without giving away the stuff one looks forward to in a game " I was so pleased when I looked in the manual, desperately searching for the information I suddenly found so vital to my survival, and I actually found it.

Annoying is the ability of the computer player to crank out the forces without having anything remotely reminiscent of your own resource limitations—he stops when you annihilate his construction facilities and only then.

Also, more objectives should exist beyond the single obvious exclusively violent one reconnoiter, rescue, patrol, etc.
